The Malphurs Group is known for a number of professional services connected with strategic planning (Advanced Strategic Planning – Baker Books). We define strategic planning simply as coming alongside established and newly planted churches to help them think and act strategically in today’s culture. These services would consist of a number of sessions addressing each or selected aspects. Click on the tab below to view these aspects:

The discovery and evaluation of your church’s core values
…(church’s DNA or identity) as based on Aubrey Malphurs’ book Values Driven Leadership (Baker Books).
The development and communication of your mission and vision
…(church’s direction). A clear, biblical direction is vital to your ministry. We will help you to develop a mission and vision that’s tailor-made for your ministry.
The development and evaluation of your church’s strategy
…consisting of a look at five vital elements: your community, disciple making process, staffing, congregational mobilization, setting (facilities and location) and finances-in particular how to raise money for ministry.
A review of individual, selected strategy items from the above list.
One example could be how you’re making disciples. The Malphurs Group uses a tool called the Maturity Matrix to accomplish this. Along with this we ask, “Do you have a clear pathway in the church for making disciples and if so, what is it?” Another would be staffing. Again, the Malphurs Group takes a whole new approach to strategic staffing and how you should and could staff for growth. In addition we would help you to develop a “staffing blueprint” for the future.
A review and evaluation of a church’s concept of leadership and how to develop leaders at both a lay and staff level.
This would involve designing an intentional leadership development process that is unique to who you are. (See Malphurs’ Being Leaders and Building Leaders – Baker Books.)
The development and evaluation of a church’s process for staff development.
We would meet with each of your ministry staff persons and help them assess who they are and then design a professional development plan that is unique to them based on that assessment.
The development of a process for and help with hiring new church staff
…with a focus on the senior pastor and other pastoral staff persons. Most churches struggle when it comes to finding and hiring new staff persons. And a mistake in this area will prove most costly. The Malphurs Group has a process that will help you to hire the right person for your ministry.
A review and evaluation of a church’s governance process.
The research says that most boards (elders, deacons, etc.) don’t function well. The Malphurs Group will meet with your board and assist them in discovering how to achieve excellence in leadership of the church. This new approach that we take focuses on the policies approach to board governance popularized by John Carver.
A church analysis to see how you’re doing.
One additional option is to have your staff take a Church Analysis or the congregation take a Congregational Survey much as Willow Creek Community Church of Chicago did just a few years back to see how you’re progressing. The Malphurs Group would oversee the Survey or Analysis, and then spend a number of sessions (whatever it would take) to review the results with you.

The Malphurs Group will also consider any special needs that you believe you have and would consider designing sessions built around those needs if they’re within our organizational expertise.
